Tai Chi Chuan

Exterior of the Smith Campus Center at Harvard

Arts Wing, Smith Campus Center 2nd floor

Tai Chi Chuan (Supreme Ultimate Fist) is an ancient Chinese martial art that, in modern times, has become misunderstood as only a wellness practice. A better understanding of the martial roots of the arts, as well as the underlying philosophical and energetic concepts of Yin and Yang, substantial and insubstantial, and Yang’s Principles, will lead to better Tai Chi Chuan practice. This will open the door to better core strength, balance, coordination, mental centeredness, and other improvements to overall wellness.

Flat shoes and loose-fitting clothing that wicks sweat are recommended. While rigorous, the nature of the gentle movements makes the curriculum appropriate for all ages and most individuals, regardless of health status. This class is open to both beginners and those who have taken a Tai Chi Chuan class with the Center for Wellness before.

Due to software limitations, the Tai Chi Chuan series only shows on a single date (January 29) on our registration portal. Please select that date on the portal to sign up for the whole 10-week series.

Eligible students can register for sessions that might pose a financial barrier for no cost. Please contact wellness@huhs.harvard.edu with your HUID number.
